---- — Frances Brown Vermilya
RHINEBECK — Frances B. Vermilya went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at the age of 101. She was residing at the Baptist Home at Brookmeade in Rhinebeck for the last 10 months.
On Feb. 25, 1911, Frances Harriet Brown was born to Robert Brown and Alta Pete Brown in Portlandville.
After graduating from Oneonta High School, she worked in the City Chamberlain’s Office and then the Wilber National Bank.
Frances married optometrist Edgar B. Vermilya on Oct. 9, 1939, at the First United Methodist Church in Oneonta, where they were active members for many years.
Although Frances stopped working when she and Ed started their family, she was very involved in the community and participated in various community groups. She was a Brownie leader, member of the Audubon Society, the League of Women Voters, and Reach to Recovery (for survivors of breast cancer), to mention a few.
Frances is survived by a daughter, Candace Edwards and her husband, Brealand, of Hopewell Junction; granddaughter, Cara Edwards, and her husband, Brian Stoehr, of Brooklyn and their two children, Harrison and Josephine; grandson, Darion B. Edwards and his son, Darion Edwards, of Poughkeepsie, grandson, Shane Edwards and his son, Bronx, of Poughkeepsie, grandson, Dustin Edwards, of Brooklyn, and grandson, Kristian Vermilya and wife, Brenda, of Averill Park and their two children, Samara and Timothy.
Frances was predeceased by her beloved spouse, Edgar, who died in November 1988; her son, Derek B. Vermilya; her daughter, Jill Brook Vermilya; her brother, Lowell Brown; and her sister, Clara Baird.
Frances will be missed, but her gentle and kind spirit remains.
A private memorial service will be held for the family on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at the Full Gospel Center in LaGrangeville. The service will be officiated by Senior Pastor Rick A. Leonardi. Frances will be interred at Oneonta Rural Cemetery. Robert H. Auchmoody’s Funeral Home in Hopewell Junction is handling the arrangements.
