FRANKLIN — Carleton David Peterson, 81, of Franklin passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 16, 2012, at Chase Memorial Nursing Home, New Berlin.

He was the son of the late Gustav E. and Ruth Ingeborg (Carlson) Peterson and the stepson of the late Violet Peterson.

He married the former Sally Ester Dodge on Sept. 20,1958, in Sidney Center Methodist Church. She died Sept. 19, 2006.

Carleton worked as a carpenter for Gustav E. Peterson Builders in Unadilla until retirement. He was a 1949 graduate of Sidney Central School. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1954 during the Korean War his first deployment was part of Operation Gyroscope. He was a charter member of the Sidney Elks and the Trout Creek Emergency Squad.

Carleton is survived by his daughter and her husband, Melanie and Michael Ruff of Unadilla. their children, Justin and wife Jessica Ruff, great-grandchildren JP and Calli Ruff; grandchildren, Andrew and Miranda Ruff; son David (Laura) Peterson of Branford, Conn., and their children, Eric and his wife Laura Peterson and Melissa and Shari Peterson; son John (Elizabeth) Peterson of Franklin and their daughter, Lindsey Peterson; son Donald Peterson and his companion Sue Misner; son Daniel Peterson of Wells Bridge and his daughters, Brooke and Kyle Peterson’ and great-granddaughter Vaeda Carol; a brother Dr. Earle and Cindy Peterson of Cooperstown; a stepsister Carol Vance of Connecticut; niece Susan Peterson of San Francisco, Calif.; and nephew Jim and Myrna Peterson of Fly Creek.

A service to celebrate the life of Carleton David Peterson will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at the funeral home when the family will be in attendance before the service. Following the service, a gathering will be held at the Wells Bridge Fire Department, Wells Bridge.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Trout Creek Fire Department and Emergency Squad, 8695 County Highway 27, Trout Creek, NY 13847, in Carleton’s memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home Inc. of Unadilla.
