ALBANY — Alfred Wesley Sitterley, 90, passed away at St. Peter’s Hospital’s Hospice Inn, Albany, on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013.

Alfred “Junior” Sitterley was born to Alfred Sitterly and Florence Nelson Sitterly in Amsterdam on March 24, 1922. Alfred Jr. was the oldest of 10 children.

During World War II, Alfred joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Philippines, where he met his wife, Lourdes Villegas. She was a nurse who treated an injury he sustained while serving in the Philippines.

They had three of their four children in the Philippines and later moved to the Albany area, where they had their fourth child.

Alfred and his wife later moved to the Stamford-Delhi region of New York.

He is survived by his children, Robert A. Sitterley and his wife, Sharon, of Forest, Va., Florence Kunnas of Mansfield, Ohio, and Silver Bay, Beverly Sann of Silver Bay, and Alice Benjamin and her husband, Bruce of Davenport. Alfred is also survived by his siblings, Bernice Becker of Madison, Va., Robert Nelson Sitterly and his wife, Betty, of Albany, Beverly Cicardi and her husband, James, of Schenectady and Citrus Springs, Fla., and Carol Tymulla of Snyders Lake. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Alfred was predeceased by his wife, Lourdes V. Sitterley; his siblings, Weston Sitterly, June Sousa, Melvin Sitterly, Arthur Sitterly, Earl “Butch” Sitterly, and by Joyce Sitterly, who died in infancy.

In lieu of flowers, and in honor of their love for children, contributions may be made in memory of Alfred W. Sitterley and Lourdes V. Sitterley, to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

A memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Oxford, at a time and date to be determined.
