UNADILLA — Charles E. Jordan, 97, of Unadilla, passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford.
He was born Jan. 31, 1916, in Unadilla, the son of Herbert E. and Muriel (Hines) Jordan.
Charles married the late Carolyn Peake on April 2, 1939, in Port Crane.
Charles was a lifelong resident of Unadilla. He was a 37-year employee of Bendix in Sidney retiring in 1978.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of Joyce-Bell Post 578 American Legion, the Unadilla United Methodist Church, Unadilla Rod and Gun Club, Sampson World War II Veterans (U.S. Navy) and the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers.
Charles enjoyed fishing and golfing.
He is survived by two sons, Richard D. (Ellie) Jordan of Unadilla and David C. (Elnora) Jordan of Sidney; a daughter, Meredith N. Moore of Unadilla; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn; a son, Dennis, three sisters, Marjorie, Beatrice and Marian; and a granddaughter, Melissa.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla, with the Rev. Fred Albrecht, retired Methodist Minister officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, prior to the service when the family will be present. Interment will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla, with military honors by the Sidney American Legion. Following the committal at the cemetery friends and relatives are invited to the Unadilla Rod and Gun Club for a gathering with the family.
