ONEONTA — Diane T. McDaniels, 59, of Oneonta, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York City, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born May 1, 1954, in Cooperstown, the daughter of Anthony and Jean (Clarke) Scaccia.

Diane graduated from Oneonta High School, the Class of 1972, and had attended SUNY Oneonta.

On June 10, 1978, Diane married Jeffrey L. McDaniels in Oneonta.

For several years, Diane worked as a Mental Hygiene Therapy Aide and then a Direct Support Professional for Broome Developmental Center in Oneonta until her retirement in 2010.

Following her retirement, Diane and Jeffrey enjoyed traveling. They enjoyed spending time in Florida. Diane was looking forward to moving to Florida for the winter months. Most recently they enjoyed going to the horse races in Saratoga and Tampa Bay Downs.

She also loved being outdoors, whether it be tending to her garden or just enjoying the fresh air. But most of all, Diane loved her family and treasured the time that was spent taking care of them and her animals.

Diane is survived by her husband, Jeffrey L. McDaniels of Oneonta; her father, Anthony Scaccia of Oneonta; three children, Bryan Squaires of Oneonta, Toni-Lee McDaniels of Tampa, Fla., and Theresa-Rose McDaniels of Queens; one grandson, Kaleb Squaires; two brothers, David Scaccia of Laurens and Dale and Sandra Scaccia of Franklin; one sister-in-law, Connie Cole; three brothers-in-law, Pete and Ann McDaniels, Michael and Liz McDaniels and Tom and Colleen McDaniels, all of Canisteo; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and her many animals.

She was predeceased by her mother, Jean Scaccia on Aug. 6, 2010.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at the funeral home with Mother Suzanne Cole, pastor of the Christ Episcopal Church, Walton, officiating. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790 in loving memory of Diane T. McDaniels.
