BAINBRIDGE — Steven Mark Place, 56, of Bainbridge, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2013, at the Wilson Memorial Hospital.
Born in Sidney on Oct. 25, 1956, to Donald and Betty Place, he graduated from Sidney High School and later from Delhi Community College.
He married Rebecca Fontanez of Sidney in 1984.
Steve was a passionate man who enjoyed being outdoors. After spending five years working for a local building contractor, Conrad Schlafer, he worked as an Electrical Field Planner for NYSEG.
In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, canoeing and woodworking. He built his own home and was always there to help friends with household projects, or whatever else they needed him for.
Steve is survived by his loving wife Becky of 29 years. He was a loving father and proud of his three children, Matthew Place and his wife, Leksie, along with their children (Caleb, Kelsie and Kaitlyn) of Lebanon, N.J., Stephanie Staton and her husband, Nate along with their children (Malia and Titus) of Rock Hill, S.C., and Sarah Place of Bainbridge. He is also survived by his parents, Robert and Betty Hunt of Sidney; his in-laws, Daniel and Shirley Fontanez of Bremerton, Wash.; his brother, Charles Place and his wife, Sherry of Oneonta; his brother, John Place and his wife, Cheryl of Deposit; as well as his many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends for calling hours from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013; and the service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. Both will take place at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street, Sidney.
