RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Frank Madaras, 85, passed away on Sunday evening, June 8, 2014, in his home with his loving family at his side.
He was born on July 29, 1928, in Richfield Springs, son of the late Costantine and Mary Hrynko Madaras. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident he was educated in Richfield Springs High School.
A good old fashion farmer, Frank’s entire life was spent on the Madaras Dairy Farm in Brighton. He owned and operated his farm until his retirement in 1995.
On Oct. 16, 1998, he was united in marriage with the former Eleanor Buell in Volusia, Fla. They made their home in Richfield.
Mr. Madaras had a strong belief in God and was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Herkimer.
To all who knew him he was a down to earth, hard working man with good common sense. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point yet you felt a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 15 years, Eleanor; a son, Warren Engell and his wife, Kathy of Cicero; two daughters, Lynda Kenny of North Syracuse and Gayle Fralick and her husband, Tim of Herkimer; a sister-in-law, Star Madaras; six nieces; six nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Michael, Danny, Harry and Andrew Madaras; five sisters, Mary French, Ann Knowls, Eva Edick, Martha Berlinsky and Olga Nichols.
Calling hours for Mr. Madaras will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs.
Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Rick Kinney officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarville Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care or the Old Stone Church, Schuyler Lake. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
