John Vilagos Jr.
SPRINGFIELD CENTER — John Vilagos Jr., 81, of Springfield Center, passed away June 18, 2014, at home, due to heart failure.
He was born March 22, 1933, in Hungary, the son of John Sr. and Helen (Fulop) Vilagos.
He was married to Dolle L. Macias Vilagos.
Survivors include his wife, Dolle L. Vilagos; daughters, Ruth E. Haas, Susan Vilagos and Victoria Vilagos; granddaughters, Selena M. Haas, Dava L. Haas, Emma E. Haas and Ilona Taub; a grandson, Griffin J. Haas; great-grandsons, Jaden A. Gorozabel and Ethan N. Gorozabel; and brothers, Zoltan Vilagos and Tibby Vilagos.
He was a professional soccer player and played in Mexico for the Hungarian National Team. He served in the U.S. Army Special Forces Screaming Eagles in the Korean War. He worked as a butcher in New York City.
He loved to landscape, enjoyed reading paper, telling stories, and spending time with his family.
Services will be at 5 p.m, Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Springfield Center.
