Bernice R. Lewis
WEST EXETER — Bernice R. Lewis, 84, of West Exeter, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at her home.
She was born on Feb. 13, 1930, in Englewood, N.J., a daughter of the late Gustav and Ruth Erickson Bergman. She graduated from Englewood High School and continued her education and received a two-year business degree.
Bernice married Warren D. Lewis on July 1, 1950, in Tenafly, N.J., and he died on Jan. 5, 2009.
She worked as an secretary for Sussex Rural Electrical, in New Jersey, and more recently was the Administrative Secretary with Otsego Rural Electrical and retired in 1994.
Bernice was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she served in the church council and as organist for many years. She also served on the Huntley Cemetery Board.
In her early years, she performed with country singer, Texas Jim Robinson and her stage name was Judy Carson. Bernice appeared on PBS Channel 30 in New Jersey, and released two albums. She loved to perform and she continued playing at area nursing homes.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura Fronk and her husband, Bruce; grandchildren, William VonMinden of Denver, Colo., Danielle Hendrick of Cape Coral, Fla.; stepgrandson, Matthew Fronk of Chicago; two great-grandchildren, Gabriele and Greysyn of Cape Coral, Fla.
She was predeceased by her son, Stephen Lewis; and a brother, Alburt Bergman.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be in Huntley Cemetery.
