SIDNEY — Edward Kokalas, 98, of Sidney, died peacefully Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 30, 1914, son of the late Gaspar and Martha (Lipstas) Kokalas in Johnson City.
Ed graduated from Clarkson College in 1938, and worked as an electrical engineer for the Bendix Corp., in Sidney for 38 years, he retired in 1977, as the engineering manager of the electrical components division.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sidney.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Susan (Zdanevich) Kokalas; daughter, Susan Terry; son, Edward A. Kokalas and wife Kathi; daughter, Ellen Whipple and husband Ron. He is also survived by a sister, Martha Kokalas; seven grandchildren, Ken Simpson (Karen), Kathy Radomski (Andy), Amanda Carlin (Rob), Michael Terry (Kaho), Steven Whipple (Dena), Tim Whipple (Melissa), Eric Whipple (Shauna); and 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces.
Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 15 Liberty St., Sidney, with Fr. Gordon Polenz officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City.
