ONEONTA — Virginia R. Hayes, 87, of Oneonta, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Binghamton General Hospital.

She was born on Sept. 24, 1925, in Oneonta, the daughter of Sebastian and Maude (Pizza) Giudice. She married her husband of 61 years, Harold Hayes on Oct. 22, 1944. He predeceased her on Nov. 25, 2005.

Virginia worked for 27 years as a lunch aide at the Riverside School in Oneonta.

Virginia was of Italian-Sicilian decent. She received great joy when she attended a family reunion with her cousins who travelled here from Australia and Ragusa, Sicily.

She loved to travel with her family and thoroughly enjoyed the trips to Vermont and Pennsylvania.

She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Lee Budine and her husband, Dennis of Unadilla and Madeline “Maddy” Hayes of Otego; a grandson, Jeffrey Gardner, who she adored and his wife, Amy Jo of Oneonta; three great-grandchildren, Amethyst Noel Gardner, Brandon Jeffrey Gardner and his twin, Tiffany Elizabeth Gardner. She is also survived by her brothers, Frank (Connie) Giudice of Oneonta, Vincent (Louise) Giudice of Horseheads, Nicholas (Mary) Giudice of Oneonta; and a sister, Viola (Wilfred) Jurjens of Meridale.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Paul, Albert, and Joseph Giudice and two sisters, Lucy Russell and Rose Springer.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta with the Rev. Teressa Sivers, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.
