Anthony ‘Andy’ R. Bankich
ONEONTA — Anthony “Andy” R. Bankich, 66, of Oneonta, passed away peacefully on Nov. 20, 2013, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Andy was born in 1947, in Brooklyn, to John and Cecelia Bankich. He was one of 11 children. After his parents passing, he, his siblings and extended family moved to Morris, where he continued to be raised by his sister, Kate and husband Charlie Hansen.
He attended Jefferson Community College in Watertown and studied the trade of plumbing and electric. For 27 years, Andy was employed at Hartwick College as a plumber/electrician. During this time, he made many lifelong friends. He was a longtime resident of Oneonta.
Andy leaves behind two sons, Timothy (Carrie) and Christopher (Sara). His surviving siblings include, Kate, Junior, Pat, Rosie, Mary and Jimmy. He has numerous nieces and nephews; and also many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Andy was predeceased by his sisters, Cely, Helen and Joanie; his brother, Bobby; and his “father,” Charlie.
Among the things that Andy loved was spending time with his family, his trips to Atlantic City and his new gadgets he liked to show off. Andy was a sports fan, especially of the Mets, Jets, Syracuse and the Knicks.
Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Chapel at Hartwick College, with a service from 11 to noon. Following the memorial, there will be a gathering at the 6th Ward in Oneonta where Andy would want everyone to celebrate his life.
