Richard Karl Wakin

ENDICOTT — Richard Karl “Dickie” Wakin, 62, of Endicott and formerly of Oneonta, joined his dad in heaven on Sunday, July 28, 2013.

Dickie was born on Nov. 26, 1950, in Oneonta, the son of David S. and Jane L. (Haas) Wakin.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Church.

Dickie loved fishing, swimming, baseball, basketball, hunting and bowling. He especially enjoyed coming home for dinners and having Lux cake. One of his greatest joys was admiring and holding his bibles; studying and touching the pictures. Dickie would ask, “Why did God make the world?” Now he can chat with God about that.

He is survived by his mother, Jane Wakin of Oneonta; his brothers, David Wakin and his wife, Karen of Delhi, Harold Wakin and his wife, Denise of Laurens and Michael Wakin of Oneonta; his sister, Virginia Lee and her husband, Richard of Oneonta. He is also survived by his 11 nieces and nephews; five cousins; and many dear friends.

Dickie was predeceased by his father, David and his niece, Amanda.

Dickie had a second family who cared for him over the past 30 years. While the list of names is endless, everyone on the staff at Broome Developmental in Binghamton and Governeurs Lane in Endicott are saints on earth.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, at St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta with the Rev. David Mickiewicz, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
