HOBART — William E. Briggs (Briggsy), 61, of Hobart, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, surrounded by family and friends following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born Jan. 2, 1952, at the family home on Gun House Hill Road, the son of Earl and Virginia (Campagna) Briggs. Bill started life as a celebrity being the first baby born that year.
Bill spent his life as a farmer, carpenter and woodworker. He was a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association. In his spare time he enjoyed many things; hunting and fishing with his friends, morning coffee at the Quickway solving the world’s problems and spending time in his garden. He was a friend to many and always willing to give a helping hand.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer M. Briggs and George Keyser; three sisters, Priscilla McGrath, Jana Bresee and Barbara Stuckey; along with several nieces; nephews; and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Virginia Briggs.
A celebration of his life and potluck dinner will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, at the Hobart Fire Hall. Please bring your favorite stories and photos to share.
Arrangements for cremation were handled by the MacArthur Funeral Home of Hobart.
