RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Sue Pierson, 91, of County Highway No. 22, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, June 12, 2013, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.
She was born on Sept. 4, 1921, in Utica, a daughter of the late John and Ava Karwacz Dec. She was raised in Utica and attended Holy Trinity School.
On Oct. 19, 1946, she married Vincent Pierson in Utica. They shared a loving and devoted union of 47 years until his passing on May 27, 1993.
For 15 years she was employed with UNIVAC in Utica retiring in 1974.
Sue had a strong belief in God and was a devoted member of St. Joseph the Worker, Richfield Springs. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting sharing many of those crafted items with friends and family.
She will always be remembered as a caring and helpful person who put the needs of others before herself. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Pierson and his wife, Karen of Baton Rouge, La., and David Pierson of Richfield Springs; one granddaughter, Jennifer Contreras and her husband, Braulio of San Antonio, Texas; one grandson, Gregory Pierson and his partner, Rosetta Lee of Settle, Wash.; two great-granddaughters, Caitlin and Amelia Contreras of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Helen Carillo of Candor; many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Richfield Springs. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Richfield Springs.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
