ALBANY — A devoted father of Caitlin and Alex Latham and husband to Julie Signitzer, Chilton Latham was a modern Renaissance man fascinated with the nuances of the English language, music, cooking, gardening and nature.
Born April 21, 1954, in Bath, Chilt graduated from Colgate University with a major in history and from Albany Law School. Working for more than 30 years at the New York State Law Reporting Bureau, an office of the State Court of Appeals, he was a principal legal editor, legendary for his prowess and high standards in legal editing of the opinions of New York State’s highest court.
An Eagle Scout in his youth, Chilt became an enthusiastic hiker who summited the high peaks of the Adirondacks and enjoyed cycling, rollerblading, was an avid contender in fantasy sports leagues and a lifelong Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and Colgate Raiders supporter.
Chilt died June 12, 2013.
In addition to his wife and daughters, Chilt is survived by siblings Steven, Marjorie, Leslie, Paul and Dan Latham.
There will be a private memorial celebration at a later date.
