COOPERSTOWN — James N. Reeks, 92, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, after living a wonderful life.

Born in Troy, he had lived in Alden, Pa., and then moved back to Latham, after his father, Harold A Reeks, died, leaving his wife, Mildred Gaffers Reeks, to raise three young boys. He later resided in Latham, and Oneonta.

Jim was a graduate of Watervliet High School and attended Siena College.

Jim worked for American Locomotive in Schenectady during the war then worked for Sapolin Paint Company as a district manager for more than 25 years covering New York, Vermont, Ohio and Michigan. In 1971, he acquired Samson Floors in Oneonta.

When Jim was in his 20s and 30s he played piano at many of the Capital District’s night clubs.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Susan Klein (Russell) of Denver, N.C.; his son, James Reeks Jr. (Susan) of Troy; and his brothers, Richard Reeks (Janette) of Virginia Beach, and Harold Reeks of Denver, N.C. Jim is the grandfather of Tucker and Katherine Reeks and Justin Klein; and the great-grandfather of Makenzie, Aedan and Logan Klein.

Jim was married to Agnes Sylvester of Troy, Jane Roberts of Oneonta, and also his companion of many years, Helen Ranieri of Oneonta. They have all predeceased him.

The family would like to thank all of the Otsego Manor’s staff for all of the care and compassion they have provided to Jim over the last few years!

The family is planning a private service.
