CENTRAL BRIDGE — Arthur M. Demopoulos, 66, of Grosvenor’s Corners Road, Central Bridge, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at the Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, after a long illness.
Mr. Demopoulos was born May 8, 1947, in Johnson City, a son of Peter and Helen (Zafiriou) Demopoulos.
He was educated in the Binghamton area and later, enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served his country during the Vietnam War in the infantry. Arthur later worked at OD Heck Developmental Center in Schenectady where he retired.
He was a member of the American Legion and VFW and enjoyed traveling, working with animals, computer games and social media. He and his wife spent several winters in the Myrtle Beach area.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie (Herman) Demopoulos, who he married Oct. 10, 1987; two daughters, Michele Demopoulos of Glens Falls and Rachel Demopoulos of Otego; a son, Christopher (Annika) Demopoulos of Staunton, Va.; and a stepson, Greg VanDyke of Middleburgh; along with nine grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Daniel Demopoulos in 1997.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014, at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 108 Chapel St., Cobleskill.
A funeral service will be at noon Friday, April 25, 2014, at the funeral home with interment following in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery with military honors.
