EXETER — Howard F. Higgins, 80, of Exeter, was called home to the Lord on May 4, 2014, at Otsego Manor, with his family by his side.
He was born June 30, 1933, in New Berlin, the son of Harold W. and Ruth Almira (Hall) Higgins.
He married Virginia A. Moore on Aug. 5, 1956, in West Exeter, a beautiful union that lasted 57 years. Howard was a devoted family man. He cherished his wife, Virginia, was proud of all his children and doted on his grandchildren. He and his wife owned and operated the family dairy farm.
Howard enjoyed bowling and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
His wife, Virginia; his children and their spouses, Nancy Ann and Tim Dockstader, Priscilla Marie and Richard Cahoon, Donna Lee and Jim Currier; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Sara and Adam Schoellig, Amanda, Zackary, and Bianca Dockstader, Justin Kessler, and Chase Cahoon, Jamie and James Currier; his great-grandchildren, Patrick, Gregory, Leah and Drew Schoellig, Brodi Kessler; his siblings, Donald L. Higgins, and Margaret O. York, survive Howard.
He was predeceased by Donald Laverne Bowen, who was like a son; his granddaughter, Abigail Schoellig; his siblings, James H. Higgins, Elizabeth R. Huntington and David E. Higgins.
Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. until noon Friday, May 9, 2014, at the Burlington Flats Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at noon with the Pastor Jay Henderson officiating on May 9 following the calling hours.
Contributions may be made in Howard’s memory to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care. Envelopes will be available at the church.
