Roger Wendell Slentz
BURLINGTON — Roger Wendell Slentz, 72, born in the town of Brookfield on June 18, 1941, to Oliver and Louise (Howard) Slentz, ended his journey on earth on May 12, 2014, at Bassett Healthcare Network in Cooperstown.
Roger grew up in the New Berlin, Silver Lake and West Edmeston area. He graduated from Edmeston Central School in 1959. After serving in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963, he settled in the Burlington area.
Roger had been employed at Remington Arms for many years. He retired from the Otsego County Meadows as head of housekeeping.
He was extremely proud of his three children, Sherri, Martin and Troy. He loved them with no reserve. Also in this circle was his grandchildren, Tyler, Nickolas, Juli, Dayna, Rachel, Alexis, Troy II and Ronald; and great-grandson, Brantley.
Roger loved to trap, hunt, fish and the great outdoors. He was a member of the Brookfield Johnson Rogers American Legion Post No. 1492, the NRA and the Burlington Flats Fish & Game Club.
Roger is survived by his children, Sherri (Jeff) Vibbard, Martin (Dawn) Slentz, Bonnie (Darin) Hickling; his sisters, Barbara Wheeldon, Rachel Carlson, Nancy (Bernie) Whitacre; and the six grandchildren and great- grandchild listed above.
Predeceasing him was his precious son, Troy; a granddaughter, Sharon; a brother, Richard; and sister, Rebecca.
A graveside service will be in Burlington Flats Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, with Pastor Jay Henderson officiating.
Contributions may be made in Roger’s memory to the American Heart Association or the Edmeston Emergency Squad.
