MARYLAND — Helma M. Schmidt, 70, passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Albany Medical Center.
She was born on Feb. 1, 1942, in Austria; the daughter of Johan and Anna Kofler.
In February 1961, she married her beloved Josef. He predeceased her in 2006. They lived in Glendale, Queens, until 1974, when she, her husband and three children moved to their summer home in Maryland permanently.
Helma was a member of the Altar Rosary Society at St. Mary’s Church in Schenevus and a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Worcester.
She is survived by her three children, Monica and her husband, Curt Johns and their three daughters, Rebecca Anne, Sarah Elizabeth and Danielle Marie from Fayetteville; a son, John and his two sons, James Josef and Jenkin John and their mother, Deborah from Ballston Spa; a son, Steven and his wife, Lisa and their son, Benjamin Josef of Cooperstown; and her three brothers, Albert, Felix and Helmut.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Frank; and her sister, Stephanie.
A funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at St. Mary’s Church in Oneonta with the Rev. Bernard Ampong as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
