OTSEGO MANOR — The Rev. Donald Phillie, 84, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Otsego Manor, Cooperstown.
He was born in Brooklyn on Dec. 23, 1927, the son of the late Frank Phillie and Adelaide Harvey.
The Rev. Phillie lived in the Edmeston and New Lisbon area until his admission to the Otsego County Infirmary in 1957.
There are no surviving relatives.
A younger brother; and a stepfather, Austin Straight predeceased him.
While residing at the County Infirmary, the Rev Phillie furthered his education in theology, becoming a lay preacher in 1961, serving as Chaplain at the infirmary from 1968 until 2005. He also was ordained as a minister in April 1981.
He truly enjoyed studying and preaching God’s word. His ministry included Sunday services, communion services, prayer meetings, baptisms, weddings, funerals and 1:1 visitation. His ministry did extend into the community, and he also served as trustee at the Hartwick Christian Church.
The Rev. Phillie’s best times were the weeks he spent with youth over many summers at Sky Lake. During his many years living at the County Infirmary, later known as The Meadows then Otsego Manor, the Rev Phillie touched the lives of many staff members in addition to his services to the residents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hartwick Christian Church in Hartwick, at 2 p.m. Dec. 8, 2012.
Burial in Hartwick Cemetery will take place in the spring of 2013.
