CHERRY VALLEY — Shirley Dutcher Guanu, 85, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side.
She was born June 12, 1927, in Nelliston, the daughter of Loretta Loring and Mason Dutcher.
She graduated from Cherry Valley High School in 1945 and married John Guanu on Aug. 4, 1946, in Cherry Valley.
Shirley enjoyed quilting, knitting, computer games, and even tried sky diving with her grandchildren. She was active in the chamber of commerce, an EMT, and participated in the Christmas and Easter cantatas. She was an active member of the Episcopal and Presbyterian churches.
She is survived by her son, George M. Guanu of Oneonta; her daughter, Christine Steinhauser and Chuck Steinhauser of Westford, Mass.; her son, Seth Guanu, and wife, Christine Guanu, of Ashburn, Va., her grandchildren, Chadd, Kevin, and Kayla Steinhauser of Westford, Mass., and George J. Guanu of Ashburn, Va.; her brother, Loring Dutcher, and wife, Doris Dutcher, of Fort Plain; numerous nieces, and nephews; as well as many dear friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, Cherry Valley with the Rev. Ron Fralick officiating.
Burial will be in the Cherry Valley Cemetery.
Visitation will take place on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.
