Clayton G. Clouthier

Roseboom — Clayton G. Clouthier, 86, of Roseboom, passed away peacefully on the morning of Oct. 1, 2012, after a long battle with COPD.

Clayton was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving on the U.S.S. SIERRA and the U.S.S. CHARLES J. KIMMEL.

Clayton, with his wife, Dodie, owned and operated the Cottage Inn in Roseboom. He was also a demolition expert which he did part-time while operating the Cottage Inn. He served as Town of Roseboom Supervisor for several years. He and Dodie also owned and ran the “Country Delhi” which stood on the site of the Cottage Inn which burned down after being sold in 1972.

After “retiring” from the restaurant and construction business Clayton worked for several years as a custodian for the Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School District.

In his later years, Clayton enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and spoiling rotten the family’s little Yorkie, Harley.

Clayton is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dolores; daughters, Victoria and Mary Sue, all of Roseboom; son, Richard of Fayetteville; his beloved grandson, Garrett Bucklad of Los Angeles, Calif.; and longtime family member, Norman Bucklad. Clayton also leaves behind his sisters, Marie Mourey, Janet (Richard) Waner, Nancy Costello and Diane (Bill) Klump; brothers, Oscar (Connie), Richard (Lois), Gene (Carol) Clouthier, and Robert Clouthier of Fort Plain.

Clayton was predeceased by his brother, Hank and his wife, Rose; as well as his parents, Mary and Oscar Clouthier, all formerly of Canajoharie.

Clayton was always grateful for and cherished his longtime friendship with James (Jim) Snyder. He looked forward to the times when Jim would visit and they would reminisce about “old times.”

Clayton will be missed by his family but we are grateful for his peaceful passing and the time we were able to spend with him.

In keeping with Clayton’s wishes, there will be no calling hours and services will be private.

Contributions in Clayton’s name can be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820 or to the Cherry Valley Emergency Squad, Cherry Valley, NY 13320.
