DELHI — Lauretta Stockdale Hoffmann, 92, a 14-year resident, formerly of Valley Stream, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at O’Connor Hospital.
She was born Sept 12, 1920, in Ridgewood, Queens, the daughter of Herman C. and Catherine (White) Haas, receiving her formal education at Katherine Gibbs College, Manhattan.
Her first husband, G. William Stockdale, was killed in action during World War II, after which she married Henry Hoffmann, now deceased.
During the war, Lauretta was a decoder for the U.S. Navy, in San Diego; later, executive secretary for Chase Bank, NYC, retiring after 25 years service.
Her memberships included Tadmore Chapter 602, OES, Ridgewood (past matron); Meridale Community Church, Ladies Aid and Meri-Homemakers; Meredith Historical Society, Senior Citizens and TOPS.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Barkman, Delhi; four grandchildren, John (Arlene) Nealis, Glenn (Corie) Nealis, Elizabeth (Matt) Merrill, and Roger Barkman; eight great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces, nephews.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 12, Hall & Peet Funeral Home, where services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, the Rev Bruce Helstrom, officiating. Burial Pine Grove Cemetery, Meridale.
