---- — Eugene David Hallock

GILBOA — Eugene David Hallock, 72, of Gilboa, lost his long battle with Alzheimer’s disease on Monday, March 11, 2013. Born August 14, 1940 in Bates Hollow, he was the son of the late Eugene and Ruth (Teter) Hallock. Raised in Gilboa, David graduated from Gilboa-Conesville Central School in 1957. He married Joan Laraway of Huntersland on Sept. 15, 1962. They were married for 40 years before she predeceased him in 2003. David was a milk tester in Schoharie County for several years and then purchased the Gideon Van Wormer Farm on Guinea Road in Gilboa in 1965.

There he and his wife, Joan, operated a successful dairy farm and raised their three daughters. David was involved in farm organizations and served on the Schoharie County Cooperative Extension Board and New York State Dairy Herd Improvement Board of Directors, which he served a term as president. He also was a Councilman for the Town of Gilboa, a committeeman for the Schoharie Republican Party, and Director of the National Bank of Stamford. David and Joan were active members of the Broome Center Chapel Church.

Following retirement from dairy farming, David worked for JA Carmen Trucking of Albany, MOSA, and was Clerk of the Board for the Schoharie County Board of Supervisors. He ran for Schoharie County clerk and was elected to two terms in that position. Like his father before him, David took the job and responsibilities of serving the public as county clerk very seriously. He greatly appreciated and was humbled by the support of the citizens of Schoharie County during his two terms in office.

David is survived by his three daughters: Alicia (Bill) Terry, Polly Hallock (companion, James Webster), and Heidi (David) Pickett, all of Gilboa. He is also survived by two grandsons: Thomas and Jonathan Pickett of Gilboa; his sister: Flora Del (LaVerne) Hubbard of Middleburgh; his aunts: Anne Hallock, Pearl Hallock, and Janet Hallock and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His wife, Joan, grandson, William Terry, and his parents, Eugene and Ruth Hallock, along with an infant sister, JoAnn, predeceased him.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of the Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Scotia, for the care given to David during these last several years.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh with Rev. Jared Van Wagenen IV officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 2 to 6 PM on Saturday at the funeral home. Spring interment will be in Flat Creek Cemetery, Gilboa.

Memorial contributions may be made to Broome Center Chapel Church, c/o Heidi Pickett, Treasurer, 109 Parsons Hill Road, Gilboa, NY 12096 or Alzheimer’s Assoc. Northeast NY Chapter, Pine West Plaza Building 4 Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205.
