Paul A. Squaires

Paul A. Squaires, 60, of Oneonta, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at his residence.

Paul was born in Oneonta on Sept. 16, 1952, the son of Osborn and Olga (Panko) Squaires.

Paul was retired from the sewer and water department of the City of Oneonta. Prior to that, he worked for Better Home and Improvement.

He was a member of St. James’ Church.

He was an avid member of the Oneonta Moose Lodge and formerly served as treasurer. As a member of the Moose, he enjoyed cooking and working at its many functions. 

Paul loved sports and in his younger years he received recognition for his athletic achievement, especially in basketball, baseball and softball. He also was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his father, Osborn Squaires of Oneonta; his sons, Bryan Squaires of Oneonta and Patrick and Aaron Squaires of Raleigh, NC.; his grandson, Kaleb Squaires of Oneonta; amd a sister-in-law, Betsy Squaires, and her children, Michelle, Scott and Sherry. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

 He was predeceased by his mother, Olga Squaires, and a brother, Gary Squaires.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Kenneth Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in Oneonta Plains Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday.
