LENOX, Mass. — On Oct. 28, 2012, Paul Edgerton, surrounded by his family, passed away at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox.
Paul was born at home in Morris and raised on the same family farm.
In 1944, he married his wife, Janice Lutz. They soon moved to Ithaca, where Paul continued his education at Ithaca College. He received his BA there and pursued his career in teaching and physical education.
After a few years of teaching in small towns in the Catskill Mountains, Paul, Janice and, by now, three children, moved to Long Island to begin a new career. There he received his MBA at Hofstra University, Hempstead, attending nights.
He began as a salesman, representing steel and cast iron construction products and learned his lesson well. In 1969, he and his family moved north to Columbia County, where he began his own business, Edgerton Sales Corp., in Spencertown. His business grew and was very successful.
In 1990 Paul sold his business, retired, and spent the better part of the next 10 years traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada with his wife.
Paul was a man of his word. A handshake was as good as a signed contract and he ran his business accordingly. He was a determined, disciplined and focused individual who always believed his goals were attainable and urged others to do the same. He loved his family and was proud of his two sons and daughter.
Paul was predeceased by his wife, Janice, in April 2012 and his eldest son, Paul Edgerton, in June 2012.
He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Carol Downey and Donn; and by his son, David Edgerton.
A memorial service for Paul will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main St., Lenox, Mass. A private burial will be held in the family cemetery in Franklin.
