UNADILLA — Bettye J. Moore, 83, of Unadilla, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, surrounded by her loving family and dear friend and companion, Lia.
Bettye was born Bettye Jean Garner on July 2, 1930, in Pensacola, Fla., to Odessa and George Garner.
Bettye was predeceased by her loving husband, Gordon E. Moore; brother, Louie Garner; nephew, James Arps; and son-in-law, Barry Grover.
She is survived by her children, Ritchie (Teri) Moore, Terri (Edward) May and Jeannie Grover; her grandchildren, Jarrett (Megan) Moore, Chad (Caitlyn) Kane, Shannah Kane (Rob), Jennifer and Jeffrey Arps; great-grandchildren, Kylin and Adellah Reardon.
Bettye graduated from Tate High School in Pensacola, Fla. Later she met the love of her life and relocated to Unadilla. Bettye spent many years in the banking business having worked at what was then the Sidney Credit Union; the Unadilla Bank; Marine Midland Bank and finally retiring from Key Bank in Unadilla.
Gordie and Bettye had many blessed years after retirement traveling cross-country and spending many winters on the beach in Perdidio Key, Fla.
Bettye will be greatly missed by many wonderful friends and family. Her grandchildren will always remember the wonderful southern cooking she put on her dining room table and of course those times she always had “just a little treat” in her wallet for them. We have all been truly blessed to have this kind, generous and loving woman in our lives. We will miss her dearly.
A prayer service will be at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, in the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla with Pastor Tom Davis officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Sand Hill Cemetery, Wells Bridge.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820 in memory of Bettye.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Westcott Funeral Home Inc. of Unadilla.
