---- — Katherine ‘Kay’ Fitch Manley

COOPERSTOWN — Katherine “Kay” Fitch Manley passed away on Aug. 28, 2013, on her neighborhood of Oaks Creek located at Otsego Manor. Kay was 84 years old.

Born March 23, 1929, in West Oneonta, Kay was the daughter of Hubert and Elsie (Southern) Fitch. Kay went to school and grew up in Morris.

In 1951, Kay married Lloyd E. Manley of Hartwick, and went on to raise four daughters, Alana, Sandra, Anna and Marilyn. Kay was a devoted mother and committed wife. In 1959, Kay and Lloyd moved from Hartwick to their residence on Estli Avenue in Cooperstown.

Kay was a homemaker by profession, but did work outside of the home as well at the Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home for a number of years.

Kay was an avid reader. She loved romance novels, popcorn, and “old movies” and as a resident of the Manor for the past six years, honed her lucky winning skills at bingo every Monday and Friday evenings.

Kay was known for her dry wit and sense of humor. If you were to ask her how she felt, she would answer you, “With my fingers.” Or, if you asked her if she were alright, she would answer you, “No, I’m half left.” Kay, in her subtle and unassuming way has left an everlasting understanding and legacy of what it means to give love unconditionally, although she would certainly dismiss the importance of this.

Kay was predeceased by both her parents; her sister, Dorothy Fitch Miller; her daughter, Alana; her beloved little Schnauzer, Danny; and two Pomeranians, Susie and Foxy.

Kay is survived by her husband, Lloyd; her daughters, Sandra Manley of Cooperstown, Anna (Daniel) Buell of Pittsfield, Marilyn (David) Tero of Mohawk; a loving niece, Kay Miller of Oneonta; two grandchildren, Adam (Amy) Buell of Manhattan, Katherine (Stephen) Smithson of Schuyler Lake; two great-grandchildren, Collin Daniel Smithson, Cedric Robert Buell; and a close family friend, Lisa Gayle. Kay is also survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Manley of Hartwick; a nephew, Richard (Jackie) Manley of Hartwick; and a niece, Betsy (James) White of Oneonta. In addition to the many extended family members and friends, Kay also leaves behind her cat, Penny.

Family and friends of Kay are invited to gather for calling hours from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at the Stone Church in Schuyler Lake, which will be followed immediately by a celebration of life service, with Pastor Sharon Rankins-Burd officiating.

Graveside interment will take place at the discretion of the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kay’s name to the Oak’s Creek Activity Fund, 128 Phoenix Mills Cross Road, Cooperstown, NY 13326 or to the building fund for the Schuyler Lake United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 102, Schuyler Lake, NY 13457.

Kay’s family wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude and words of thanks to all the staff and friends at Otsego Manor, as well as Catskill Area Hospice, for their love, caring, and certainly their support through this time of transition of Kay’s life on earth, into her next life in Heaven.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.johnstonfh.com.

Funeral arrangements are with Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
