UNADILLA — Ellen Mae (Frank) Woods-Gennarino, 85, passed away peacefully at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013.
Ellen was predeceased by the father of her children, R. Eugene Woods; her spouse, John B. Gennarino; and her eldest daughter, Sue Ellen Woods. She was also predeceased by her mother, H. Mae Frank and her father, William S. Frank Sr.; her sister, Nancy J. Bernard; and two brothers, William S. Frank Jr. and Robert E. Frank.
Ellen is lovingly remembered by her son and his spouse, Ricky E. and Bernadette Woods of Imperial Beach, Calif.; her daughters and their spouses, Beth and John R. Madsen of San Diego, Calif., and Phyllis and Stanley Nordberg II of Unadilla. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis E. Chase of Unadilla; and her brother, Richard J. (Butch) Frank of Walton; her grandchildren, Gary Johnson Jr., Wayne Johnson, Maverick Madsen, Michael Woods, John Woods, David Woods, Brian Nordberg, Lucas Nordberg and Crystal Nordberg. Ellen also was blessed with several great-grandchildren that loved her.
Ellen Mae Frank was born in Walton on Oct. 30, 1927. She graduated from Walton High School in 1945, and went on to earn a degree in cosmetology at Albany School of Cosmetology in 1946. She owned and operated Ellen Mae’s Beauty Shop for over 50 years.
At the age of 60, Ellen went back to school to learn the art of massage therapy at the Connecticut Center for Massage to further pursue her need and love to help people.
Ellen enjoyed cooking and baking and for many years she catered weddings and other events. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, and was an active member of Chapter No. 179 Order of the Eastern Star in Unadilla.
Ellen was also a member of the First Congregational Church in Sidney and a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Veterans Home in Oxford, Apple Floor, for their kindness and attention to the preservation of the patient’s integrity. A special thank you also goes to Alice Ahner of Harpursville for her dedication and love for her “ladies.”
There will be no visitation hours at the request of Ellen.
She has donated her body to science.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Ellen that will be held at the First Congregational Church, 1 Bridge St., Sidney at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, with Religious Leader, Patricia Robinson officiating. There will be a short reception provided by the church immediately following the service in the social area of the church.
