MARGARETVILLE — Elizabeth (Betty) Jean Hendricks, 80, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 2, 2013. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born in Orange, N.J. on Nov. 28, 1932, the daughter of Delma Clausen and Brutus Bidault. She graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in Caldwell, N.J., in 1950.

Betty married the love of her life, George James Hendricks on July 26, 1952, in Fairfield, N.J., and soon after started their family in George’s hometown of Margaretville.

She graduated from SUNY Delhi Nursing School in 1973, and was a nurse for 25 years. She loved helping and caring for others.

Betty was an Elder at the Margaretville-New Kingston Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir for 17 years. She was a member of the American Cancer Society Board in Walton and was also a Reach-for-Recovery volunteer to support cancer patients and their families.

When she was younger, Betty loved to go camping, especially in Lake George. She loved to sing country-western music with her husband and the family band that played all over the Catskills.

She enjoyed sewing, reading, crafts, and most of all, spending time with her family.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Lori Ballard and her husband, Ernest of Denver-Vega; grandson, Garrett Ballard of Margaretville; grandsons, Nathaniel and Adam Hendricks of Margaretville; sisters Joan Schafer and Ruth Wolcott of Margaretville; and many close nieces and nephews.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, George; and son, George James Hendricks Jr.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013, at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2013, at the Margaretville-New Kingston Presbyterian Church in Margaretville with Pastor Shirley Davis officiating. Committal service will be in the Margaretville Cemetery Annex.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory can be made to the Margaretville-New Kingston United Presbyterian Church or the Margaretville Hospital Memorial Fund.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Hynes Funeral Home.
