---- — Richard ‘Dick’ A. Monson
ONEONTA — Richard “Dick” A. Monson, of Oneonta and Sarasota, Fla., died peacefully May 1, 2013, with his family by his side.
He was born Jan. 10, 1932, in Edmeston, the son of Alfred and Rose (Mertz) Monson. Dick graduated from Edmeston Central School and continued his education at Morrisville Agricultural College with a degree in animal husbandry.
After college, he joined his father on the home dairy farm in Edmeston, now Monson Road. After several years in Florida, he returned to farming in Mount Vision where he raised his family. Dick retired from dairy farming and began work for Dellwood Foods as a milk inspector.
In retirement he always had a great garden and shared his produce with neighbors and friends.
Dick was a member of the Association of Christian Farmers, the Main Street Baptist Church.
His children, Cindy Monson, Wendy Monson, Randy Monson, Sandi Wells and Judy Monson; his siblings, John “Jack” Monson and Barbara Hart; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren survive Richard.
His parents, Alfred and Rose; and his brother, the Rev. Alfred Monson predeceased him.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at the Main Street Baptist Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Gary Bonebrake, officiating. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Edmeston Union Cemetery.
