Marjorie M. Smith
DELHI — Marjorie M. “Marge” Smith, 92, longtime Delhi resident, died April 29, 2013, at her son’s, in Belton, Texas.
Born Nov. 25, 1920, in West Delhi, to Arthur and Edith (Pearce) Morrison, she was educated at West Delhi District School, graduated A. L. Kellogg School, Treadwell, and Doerr Academy of Hairdressing and Beauty Culture, Springfield Mass.
She opened a beauty shop in Treadwell, later moving to Syracuse, working as a bookkeeper, and married Leslie “Smitty” Smith, Sept. 8, 1954. In 1963, they returned to Delhi, Marge joining her father, operating Delhi Farm Equipment.
Eventually retiring to Texas, she volunteered over 8,900 hours at Temple, Texas VA Hospital, receiving the “Call to Service Award” from President George W. Bush.
Marge was a life-long member of West Delhi Presbyterian Church, active in Women’s Missionary Society; Delhi American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 190; Unit and County President; volunteered at Oxford VA Home; past member of Delhi College Ladies Golf Association; and Selected Delhi BPW “Woman of the Year” (2006).
Pre-deceased by her husband; sister, Ruth Davidson; brother, Ralph Morrison; surviving are her sons, Mark Smith, Belton, Texas, and Don Kueneman (Joyce), Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces; nephews; cousins.
Memorial service: Saturday, June 8, 1 p.m., West Delhi Presbyterian Church. Burial following, West Delhi Cemetery.
