Robert Ellery Bostwick
CHANDLER, Ariz. — Robert Ellery Bostwick, 75, of Chandler, Ariz., passed away April 28, 2013, in Hospice.
He was born in Maryland, the eldest child of Ellery and Dorothy Bostwick.
He graduated from Draper High School in Schenevus in 1955, and joined the U.S. Navy, spending four years in Florida.
He then married Loretta Braun in 1959, and they had two daughters.
He completed two years at the University of Florida in Gainesville and graduated from SUNY in Oneonta in 1967, and joined the U.S. Air Force as an officer. He served in Iceland, Iran and many U.S. cities, including Tempe, Ariz., as an ROTC instructor at ASU. After 20 years in the military he retired in 1982, as a lieutenant colonel, divorced in 1984, and settled in Chandler, Ariz.
He worked as a math instructor at Mesa Community College and as an assistant manager of a DC for the AZRepublic Newspaper.
He was a perpetual student, a woodworker, a skier and a sports and physical fitness enthusiast until he became ill with a rare palsy a few years ago.
He is survived by daughters, Lisa Bostwick of Chandler and Sheila Bostwick-Kountz of Tempe; grandchildren, Hunter Bostwick Johnson of Chandler, Alisha Kountz of Mesa, Tyler Kountz and Travis Kountz of Tempe; former wife, Loretta Pflaum of Tempe; brothers, Mel Bostwick of Oneonta, Ellery Bostwick of Milford, Chuck Bostwick of Cooperstown Junction; and sisters, Joan Curry of Schenevus, and Elaine Eager of Cooperstown Junction.
A celebration of life was held by the immediate family on May 19, 2013.
