RIVERDALE — Betty Davis passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at her home in Riverdale, at the age of 96 years.
She was born in Tarrytown, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Ruppert Yankovich. She attended school in Westford. Betty was an avid dancer, a talented seamstress and enjoyed gardening. She loved photography and spending time with family and friends. She was a longtime member of the Riverdale YM-YWHA.
Betty worked for American Stevedores in New York City for many years. She became a philanthropist and, with her husband Wilbur, donated 190 acres of land to New York State for the establishment of the Betty and Wilbur Davis State Park and a generous endowment for its future operation and maintenance.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 76 years, Wilbur; her sister, Theresa Troegner; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by her brothers, Michael, Joseph and John Yankovich and sisters, Mary Petcoff, Ann Bartoluzzi and Julia Niedzialkowski.
Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Johnston Funeral Home, 60 Broad St., Morris. Funeral and committal services will be held at 2 p.m. in the Cooks Cemetery, NYS Route 23, West Oneonta, with the Rev. Kurt Funke officiating.
