ROXBURY — Nancy Hubbell Finch, 82, of Roxbury, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2013, with family at her side.

Nancy was born Nancy Frances Hubbell on April 24 1931, daughter of Ralph and Inez “Lillian” Archibald Hubbell.

She married Richard Finch on Sept. 30, 1950. Nancy was a resident of Kelly Corners and Halcottsville for 75 years and moved to Roxbury in 2006. Nancy and Dick spent winters in Summerfield, Fla., in their retirement years. During the time she spent in Florida, Nancy’s home and heart always remained in her beloved Catskill Mountains.

Nancy was the Halcottsville postmaster as well as owner and operator of Finch’s General Store in Halcottsville for 33 years.

Nancy was an avid baker, loved to cook, and work in her gardens. She was active in both the Halcottsville Fire Department Auxiliary and the Sun Bonnet Quilters.

Nancy was a devoted member of the Methodist Church in Halcottsville and later in Roxbury. She took great pleasure in early morning walks and was constantly active and on the move.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Richard; her brother and sister-in-law, William and Dolores Hubbell.

Nancy is survived by two sons, William Finch and his wife, Sherry of Roxbury and Stephen Finch and his companion, Sara Stone of Halcottsville; one brother, Robert Hubbell and his wife, Caroline; five grandchildren, William Finch II and wife Chelsea Lechner, Kimberly Dorosky and husband Matt Dorosky, Alexa Finch, Stefanie Finch, Michael Finch; as well as two great-grandchildren, Connor and Mitchell Dorosky. Nancy is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

She was very active in the community and will be greatly missed by many.

Calling hours will be held at the Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2013, and a funeral will be held at the Roxbury United Methodist Church in Roxbury at 11 a.m. Monday, July 8. A burial ceremony will be held in the Halcottsville Cemetery following the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the Roxbury United Methodist Church or the Halcottsville Fire Department Auxiliary.
