---- — Doris M. (Farrier) Miller
LEESBURG, Fla. — Doris M. (Farrier) Miller, 85, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Sidney, went to be with the Lord on July 30, 2013.
Doris was born in Poughkeepsie on Dec. 25, 1927, daughter of John Elting Nestler Farrier and Alice Emma (Brenner) Farrier.
Doris graduated from Sidney High School and married Elbert Mark Lown from Oneonta on Sept. 22, 1946.
Doris was a voracious reader. She enjoyed works of J.F. Cooper, reading accounts of the six Indian tribes and settlers in the region. Many visits were made to Old Stone Fort to touch the gravestone of Timothy Murphy, her personal hero of the times.
Doris received her LPN license at Fox Hospital Nursing School in Oneonta in 1965. She worked in several nursing homes in the Tampa area, MacDill Air Base, and several years at The Veterans Hospital, where she retired and moved back to Sidney in 1991, with her second husband, David Brown, now deceased.
Fascinated with English Royalty, in 1989, she joined family to visit her grandson in the A.F., stationed at Lakenheath, touring English castles and estates. She spoke of the experience often in later years.
She is survived by her husband, Clair Miller Jr.; two daughters, Lorice (Lown) Joseph of Leesburg, Fla., and Pamela (Lown) Gilbert of Sidney; and son, Mark Lown of Leesburg, Fla. Also, three grandchildren, Kristen Joseph, Jeffery and Jill Cox; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Paige and Johnathan; and niece and nephews.
She was predeceased by siblings, George and Lorice (died as infants), and Deardre M. Goulette.
A graveside service will be in Cook’s Cemetery in West Oneonta at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2013.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778.
