COOPERSTOWN — Rosa Miranda, 91, of Cooperstown, died Monday afternoon, Nov. 11, 2013, at Bassett Medical Center.
Rosa was born in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, a daughter of Dionisia Miranda, on June 13, 1922. She immigrated to the United States in 1961, immediately becoming employed by the Markusen family in Bronxville. She started her career as a nanny and housekeeper for Stanley and Grace Markusen, taking care of young Dee-Dee and Bruce, but over time grew to become a family member, beloved by all of the Markusens. She lived almost all of her adult life with several generations of Markusens and moved with them to Delray Beach, Fla., Roseville, Minn., and Cooperstown.
She was an excellent cook, especially in making fried chicken, tamales, and empanadas. Rosa was also an avid reader of Spanish language magazines, enjoyed nurturing plants, took special pride in taking care of three generations of Markusens, and especially enjoyed watching baseball games on TV, in particular her beloved Yankees.
Rosa is survived by her family of Bruce, Sue and Madeline Markusen of Cooperstown, and Adriane Markusen of New York City.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at St. Mary’s “Our Lady of the Lake” Roman Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with Father John P. Rosson, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Index.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown.
