Evelyn Ruth Balcom
ONEONTA — Evelyn passed away at Otsego Manor on Nov. 1, 2013.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, William E. Balcom Sr.
Evelyn is the daughter of Albert Babcock and Grace Young.
She is survived by one brother, Albert Babcock Jr. She is also survived by her children, Mike York of Halcott Center, Deb Bilzer of Margaretville, Julie Maresca of Burley, Idaho, Bill Balcom Jr. of Cooperstown and Sarah Penrod of Cooperstown. Evelyn is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was predeceased by a brother and a sister.
Evelyn was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and practiced her faith for 45 years. Throughout those years she had the privilege of belonging to the Arkville Congregation, the Stamford Congregation and most recently the North Congregation in West Oneonta.
Evelyn worked as a telephone operator in New York City. She was also a home health aide for many years.
Evelyn was an avid seamstress. She also loved to cook and bake and did both equally well. She loved to plant flowers, was a voracious reader and also enjoyed music.
Evelyn was much loved by all and will be missed by all!
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3985 State Highway 23, West Oneonta. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kingdom Hall.
