STAMFORD — Thomas J. Matalavage, 88, formerly of Stamford and North Topsaid Beach, N.C., passed away on Nov. 30, 2013, at Kingsway Community in Schenectady.
Thomas was born in Mahanoy City, Pa. He was the son of the late Thomas and Julia Yanusky Matalavage. He was a graduate of East Stroudsburg State College and was instrumental in the design of a New York State Math Curriculum.

Tom loved his family most of all, but a close second and third were skiing every day, all winter, until the age of 80, and surf casting with the tides in Topsail Beach. His was a life fully lived, and nobody enjoyed their retirement more.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was also predeceased by his daughter Jane M. Langer.
Thomas leaves behind his loving wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Matalavage, and his daughter, Joan Matalavage, both of Schenectady, and his son Thomas (Susan) Matalavage of State College, Pa. He will be greatly missed by them and his grandchildren, Cassie Matalavage, Janalee Langer Dwojakowski, Jon Langer, Matt Langer and Abby, Elle and Jon Matalavage, and his sister, Elizabeth Skokowski.
