Virgil O. Anthony
SIDNEY — Virgil O. Anthony, 85, of Sidney, passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford.
He was born April 7, 1927, son of the late Herbert and Leta (Holbrook) Anthony in New Berlin.
Virgil attended Sidney Central Schools and enlisted in the United States Army in 1945. He served his country during World War II receiving the World War II Victory Medal and was honorably discharged in 1947, at the rank of Corporal.
Virgil, prior to retirement, was the manger of Bern Furniture in Sidney. He was a member of the Sidney American Legion, the Sidney Moose Lodge and a charter member of Tri-County Kiwanis.
Virgil was also a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Sidney.
Virgil is survived by his nieces, Linda Mondore, Bainbridge, Sandra Perkins, Cicero, Doreen Neer, Port Crane, and Gail Lord, Georgia; nephews, Danny Chase, Sidney, Dean Anthony, Sackets Harbor; and several grand-nieces, -nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Virgil was predeceased by sisters, Ruth Keesler and Leta Chase; brothers, Herbert and Maurice Anthony.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Funeral services will follow at noon with Fr. James Shevlin officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Gospel Hill Cemetery in Guilford.
