Alice Rita Pfeuffer
MOUNT VISION — Alice Rita Pfeuffer, 72, of Mount Vision, died peacefully at Bassett Medical Center on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, with her loving family by her side.
She was born Dec. 31, 1939, in Yaphank, the daughter of Robert J. and Alice H. (Rutkowski) Walsh; and granddaughter of Herman and Eleanor Gerard of Laurens. She married Gustav (Gus) Pfeuffer on July 10, 1959, in Teaneck, N.J.
Alice graduated from Bergen Technical Vocational High School as a licensed beautician. She continued in this career until her oldest daughter was born and then became the homemaker, taking loving care of her two daughters and husband.
In 1976, the family moved to Mount Vision from Ridgefield Park, N.J. Alice and her husband, Gus, started the Hill Top Construction Co., which they ran until 2005. In 1990, Alice and Gus purchased Augur’s Bookstore in Cooperstown, where she and her daughter, Teresa, ran the business until 1998.
Alice enjoyed camping, traveling, NASCAR and tractor pulls. She was famous for her cream puffs that contained duck eggs. Alice will be remembered as being the most supportive mother anyone family could have wished for; always attending the PTA meetings, going to all the school activities and later in her life caring for her grandchildren.
Her husband, Gus; her children, Teresa Convis (Scott) and Wendy Tennant (Mike); her grandchildren, Caitlin and Amber Marble, and Kristopher Convis; her sister, Eleanor Lauer (Ronald); her brother in-law, Herbert Pfeuffer (Delores); her sister-in-law, Ruth Johnston; and many nieces and nephews, survive Alice.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Messner officiating. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 16.
Interment will be in Mount Vision Cemetery on Monday following the service.
