NEW BERLIN — Harold “Lefty” Scrivener, 91, of New Berlin, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014, at Chase Memorial Nursing Home, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Brooklyn, the son of Harold J. Scrivener and Christine (O’Rourke) Scrivener.

Lefty served in the Army Air Corps in the 100th Bomb Group during World War II and was stationed at Thorpe Abbott Airfield in England. His B-17 was shot down on May 24, 1944, and he was a Prisoner of War (POW) until June 28, 1945. Lefty also served for his country during the Korean Conflict.

Lefty married Gladys Mclean on March 31, 1952, in Burlington.

He was a draftsman and worked for TACO in Sherburne for many years and later retired from Bennett Ireland of Norwich.

In Lefty’s youth he was an avid baseball player and a talented musician capable of playing many different instruments. Lefty had many hobbies and enjoyed being an amateur radio operator and his call sign was N2KYU.

He loved children and dogs and especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Michele Sprague and her husband, Jeff of Summit Lake, Kevin Scrivener and his wife, Terri of Edmeston, Mitchell Scrivener and his wife, Karen of Plymouth; grandchildren, Erik (Megan) Scrivener, Erin Scrivener, Ashley (Rory) Sprague, Evan Scrivener, Erik Law, Alan Law and Taya Law; sisters, Christine (Harold) Lent and Ruth Hedler; and brother, James (Nadine) Scrivener; as well as many nieces and nephews.

At Lefty’s request there will be no calling hours or burial service.
