IONIA, Mich. — George Albert Buck, 95, passed away March 31, 2014, at the Laurels of Carson City, Mich., where he was a resident.

He was born Sept. 28, 1918, in Harpersfield, the son of E. Howard and Mabel (Cornell) Buck.

George married the former Claribel M. Ackart on Dec. 25, 1939, in Oneonta, she preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 2001.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, making maple syrup, photography and woodworking, and was an animal lover.

George graduated from State Teacher’s College, Oneonta (B.S.), and Cornell University (M.S.) and spent most of his life as an educator of primary grades through college in both New York State and Michigan.

He served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a gunnery instructor.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Claire; his grandson, David; and four brothers, Edwin, Donald, Fred and Robert Buck.

Surviving are one son, Eugene (Lorin) Buck of Reston, Va.; two daughters, Janet (Dennis) Arnold and Kaye Buck, both of Ionia; six grandchildren, Lys, Lene, Nathaniel, Andrew, Wade and Molly; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Richard) Linhart of Florida; and a sister-in-law, Dianna Buck of Washington.

George encouraged all he knew to enjoy the world around them, and to serve the Lord by being mindful of the needs of others.

Friends and family choosing to make a donation are asked to give to the animal care organization of one’s choice.

A private family memorial will take place in New York State.
