SIDNEY _ Charles E. "Chuck" Welcher, 69, of Sidney, passed away Friday evening, July 15, 2011, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City.

He was born Dec. 16, 1941, in Sidney, the son of the late Lewis A. and Elsie Gloeckler Welcher.

Chuck was a graduate of the Sidney Senior High School.

On Dec. 11, 1976, he married Cynthia Spandau at the Sidney United Methodist Church. For several years he owned and operated the Smart Bootery on Main Street in Sidney.

Chuck enjoyed his daily group meeting with his friends at the Country Store on Union Street in Sidney.

He is survived his wife of 35 years, Cynthia L. Welcher of Sidney; two sons, Robert L. Welcher of Chicago, Ill., and Chad C. Welcher of Sidney; brother-in-law, William K. Davis of Otego; two nieces, Christine Chase of Florida, and Jennifer Fotiades of Boston, Mass.; and a nephew, Scott Davis of Otego.

Chuck was predeceased by his brother, Richard L. Welcher; and a sister, Alma Davis.

Friends are invited to call from noon until 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the C. H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. A service to celebrate his life will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Benjamin Shaw, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
