GRAND GORGE — Ruth Ellen Haight, 94, resident of Grand Gorge, died at her home with family members by her side on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014.
Ruth was born at the family home on Ferris Hill, Grand Gorge, on June 25, 1919, the daughter of Manley and Gertrude (Brooks) Murray.
She married Edwin Haight on Sept. 20, 1942, in Grand Gorge, he died March 9, 1995.
Ruth graduated from Grand Gorge Central School in 1936. She was employed at the NBT Bank in Grand Gorge for 23 years starting in the proof and bookkeeping department and as full- and part-time teller retiring in 1991. Prior years Ruth worked at the Victory Store as a clerk, as a bookkeeper for Sheffield Creamery and also worked at the Economy Store in Stamford.
She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Grand Gorge where she served as treasurer and on many committees, including working at the thrift shop.
She was a member of the Earl B. Dudley American Legion Auxiliary and served at one time as treasurer. Ruth was a trustee for the Fairview Cemetery Association.
Survivors are son and daughter-in-law, Manley and Patti Haight; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Carson Stryker; daughter and son-in-law, Cheri and Lee France; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Carol Haight; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by a sister, Edna Rappleyea.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday Jan. 20, 2014, at the United Methodist Church, Grand Gorge, with the Rev Dottie Morris, officiating.
Committal service will follow at the Fairview Cemetery, Grand Gorge.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
Donations in memory of Ruth E. Haight may be made to the United Methodist Church, Grand Gorge.
