Carl Robert Joslyn
KIRKWOOD — Carl Robert Joslyn, 95, of Kirkwood, formerly of the Unadilla area, passed away early Friday morning, Jan. 17, 2014, at Binghamton General Hospital, Binghamton.
He was born July 16, 1918, in Syracuse, to William and Marguerite (Warner) Joslyn.
In his early years, Carl attended Syracuse University and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Nehenta Bay.
Carl worked as a research chemist for 32 years with nine patents to his credit and was a member of the engineer’s club before retiring from Scintilla (Bendix) in Sidney.
He was a devoted husband, avid hunter and fisherman spending many afternoons with his fishing buddies, Bob and John on Cayuga Lake. Carl enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and creating beautiful works of art in stained glass that will continue to bring color and joy to those who received them.
He was a 50 year member of Sidney Freedom Masonic Lodge No. 801.
He is survived by his daughters, Shirley Tiffany, Carol Nova and Virginia Joslyn; a sister, Elizabeth; and eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Grace Gillespie Joslyn; his parents, William and Marguerite; brothers, William and Donald; and sister, Eleanor.
A funeral service will be at noon, Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at the Westcott Funeral Home Inc., 123 Main St., Unadilla (directly off Exit 10 of I-88). Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Jan. 24, prior to the service when the family will be present at the funeral home. The Rev. Daniel Martin of Nichols, United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla, if weather permits.
