---- — Gennaro ‘Jerry’ Romanelli
ONEONTA — Gennaro “Jerry” P. Romanelli, 92, passed away on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Otsego Manor in Cooperstown.
Jerry was born on May 15, 1920, in New York City, the son of Gennaro and Marie Romanelli.
He married Frances Lauricella on Feb. 16, 1947, and she passed away on Oct. 22, 1977.
Jerry served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was the recipient of three Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart.
He retired as a custodian from the New York City Public School System.
He moved here in 1973, and over the years worked for several local businesses.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church.
He is survived by his children, Marie (Robert) Anselmo of Monroe, N.J., Christine Romanelli of Oneonta, Bernadette (William) Roberts of Oneonta, and Stephen (Barbara) Romanelli of Oneonta; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Jerry Romanelli; two brothers; and three sisters.
A funeral Mass will be offered at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, in St. Mary’s Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. David Mickiewicz, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at 1:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, where military honors will be accorded.
There will be no calling hours.
