Theresa Vertucci Oakes
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Theresa Vertucci Oakes, 82, of County Highway No. 22, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, Dec. 28, 2012, in her home. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side.
She was born on May 5, 1930, in Richfield Springs, daughter of the late Antonio C. and Elizabeth A. Famulare Vertucci.
A lifelong Richfield Springs resident; she was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. She furthered her education at the Utica School of Beauty where she became a licensed beautician. For 50 years Mrs. Oakes owned and operated Theresa’s Beauty Shop from her home in Richfield Springs.
On July 1, 2000, she was united in marriage with Clifford Smith Oakes in Saint Joseph’s Church, Richfield Springs. Theresa had a strong faith in God and was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Church, Richfield Springs. She was active in the church choir and many times was a soloist for Sunday Masses and funeral services as well as a member of the church’s Rosary Society.
She was a member of TOPS and the Wednesday Morning Bird Club. Theresa also took courses in flower arranging and in her leisure time enjoyed making flower arrangements for her home and friends. Mrs. Oakes loved her community and had served on the Board of Elections.
She was responsible for organizing the annual “Christmas in the Park” that was a joy to children and adults in Richfield Springs. She also organized the Red Hat “Lady Bugs” chapter of Richfield Springs and was Queen of the group.
To all who knew her, would agree that she was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially her many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving besides her husband, Clifford; are two brothers and their wives, Frederick and Joy Vertucci of Richfield Springs, James and Barbara Vertucci of Stoneridge; many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.
